Hi, Dawn, nice to see you out and about in blogland.
On your quote: But, isn't it nice when what people say about you and what you think of yourself are approximately congruent? Unless, of course, you and others all think you are a bum. I retract my comment.
When you get this one figured out, please share your secret! It seems like I always default to the least confrontational stance on everything I share in fear of ticking someone off. I guess we have long rides and runs to work the other stuff out....
Amen to this Dawn! I was just writing about this a few days ago; in the paper I said "I am the one who has to come home with myself and spend my evenings with me, I sleep with myself and I am the one who looks at myself in the mirror, why should I care what anybody else thinks?" ... or somewhere along those lines. But seriously, why do we care what others think of us especially if our actions are pure and we treat others like we want to be treated? I call this age I'm at the age of self-discovery and acceptance. I fully accept who I am and I've finally clued in that I'm me and it's fun being who I am. The fear of judgement has passed, this is because I try to keep my judgements in check. Naturally I have faults, that's what I call my 'humanness' but I embrace my faults and know what they are so I am continually working to change them, not that I'm always successful, but I'm trying!
I've also found that when I want to be critical of others in any way, shape, or form that I'd best go back to that mirror and take a good hard look at myself, why do I allow others actions or behaviors to irritate me? I've discovered it's because I possess the same traits as the one I'm allowing to irritate me. So before I condemn or condone others, as is said, I'd best make sure my side of the street is clean.
Great to see you here again, as you can see you've touched upon a topic which excites me! lol
You've got to love Quentin Crisp. He also said “It's no good running a pig farm badly for 30 years while saying, 'Really, I was meant to be a ballet dancer.' By then, pigs will be your style.” I'm going to make sure London doesn't become "my style". Give me a tad under 10 years and I reckon I'll be ready for a bit of beach life:-)
I totally agree with that saying but sometimes its hard to forget what other people would think about us. We can't help to think of society's perception. We are stuck with it.
The most important thing in the world is how you see and perceive yourself, no what others think of you. The hell they care that's your life not theirs.

Oooo, I have such a hard time with that!
Aye.
yeah, a tough one to accomplish. :)
Hi Dawn! Beautiful colors and photos! Good advice in the quote.
the flowers are lovely, Dawn, and I like the thought - so true, but sometimes hard to remember and live by.
Thinking of ones self as number one is not selfish, but a way to enjoy life to its fullest.
Love that quote!
Happy weekend.

The words weren't even necessary for the beauty itself was sufficient. Thanks for posting.
