Learning to Fall

It seems that we as humans tend to map out for ourselves what we want our lives to look like.

Goals, relationships, dreams,  plans, (Races)....
we hold ideals for these things in our mind.

The thing is....
there often comes moments in this world of reality,
that can change well intended  plans in an instant.

It can storm through like a tornado and leave us wondering... just what DID happen.
The supposedly well-planned ideals lie in a heap around us, almost mocking us as we wonder.

I am currently realizing that there are a few options when this occurs.

I can crumble in a heap along side of all the fallen plans I had made.
And sit there indefinitely.
Or....
Realize that the best laid plans can and often do change course.
And I ultimately have to choose to get back up and try it over.

Maybe the second time around it will work.
Or not.

Whatever the case may be,

One must not only learn to fall...
but also learn to get up again.

And Learning I am.

I think you said it best, but you do have to get up again. I just went through something that was so hard, I really didn't know if I would be able to get up again and be able to continue on, but I have and I did and I am okay. But at the moment when it happens you do wonder.

Nice photo essay and yes, we must make sure to get up again. Nice to see you posting again (not that I've been very good about posting lately)

Your post reminded me of a saying...You only fail when you fail to get back up.

We all fall. Never fun, but we all do.

You have a good, strong attitude, Dawn. That will bring you far. Keep us posted, please.

And you illustrated your post perfectly with those dominoes. No bones about it. Sorry.. couldn't resist the double pun. ;)

Great advice. Life, indeed, has a way on landing us on our rumps. Getting back up and brushing off is the only sensible choice.

Wondered why it was so quiet over there....sorry for the troubles but know you will come out even stronger...no question about it.

Oh Dear Dawn I wish I could give you a hug and share my much older wisdom with you.
I like you have had plans of things I had to do or felt I had to do and boy I did them all well almost even when I shouldn't have and I have paid physically for that.
I will keep trying to do the things I truly feel I need and enjoy but, life sometimes has a funny way of showing you a very different path then you ever thought you would experience.
I want to tell you to keep following your dreams only you know how much you can handle, do not get discouraged by life changes they seem to work out in the end no matter how hard they seem at the time.
I have had one HECK of a year and am starting to realize what is important and the difference between what my concept of important was. I am still learning.
Take care my dear friend you can do anything but sometimes change happens. It will work out.
Love the Dominoes you are so good at fitting words and pics together. HUGS. B

Well said, Dawn! How very true...
PS - the photos aren't too shabby either!

The dominoes are a good graphic for our plans and the way things fall, sometimes in a positive direction, and sometimes not.
Sorry to hear of your injury. I hope it heals quickly.

I'll give you an "amen" for that sister!

It's one of those things we never stop learning, I suspect. Just today I had a little wobble in an area I thought I'd conquered long ago. And it took a conscious effort to choose the right attitude... Thanks for this.

Awesome post. I think we all learn everyday. The best part, you keep getting up.

We make plans. Life happens. Sometimes the Universe has something better waiting for us.

Life often get in the way of perfectly laid plans.

So true and so inspiring. Sometimes it takes courage and a lot of patience to accept this.

I have learned how to fall as best I can, to minimize the damage.... But when I don't see it coming- like my best friend having a Stroke a week ago--I was reminded by him how to immediately get back on the horse!

Great post Dawn!

Well said! In our culture, it is frowned upon to break down. But I was heartened to read your optimism that there is always another path to achieve our noble goals!

This is so random.... but a few years ago I wrote a post on my blog about starting my student teaching experience in middle school. I said that I'd probably end up in high school when all was said and done but in your comment you said you felt I might just end up in middle school. Just wanted to let you know that's what I'm pursuing and that I think you have a gift for intuition Dawn! Hah. Hope you're doing well!

It's been awhile since I visited and for that, I'm sorry -- I have no idea (yet) what is transpiring in your life, but will backtrack a bit to try and find out. Or you can email me!

In either case -- you will be fine. I know this.

Granny always said that it's important to fall and more important to get back up again.
Just keep getting up!
