I have an enormous aversion to barbed wire.
It has been the cause of many mishaps around our place...all of which include "my girl and her horses."
It seems a brutal and medieval type of material...and for the life of me I cannot figure out why any would be used when there are safer, less harsh, (and prettier) means to fence something in.
On a walk I came upon this rolled up bunch of the dreaded stuff.
I disdainfully cast it a glance.
It made me wonder just how many times our thoughts
on matters get clouded by what we hold in our minds.

My conclusion ended up being...
"I will always prefer barbed wire rolled up in a heap,
no matter how nice it may seem in the light of the setting sun.
Barbed wire is STILL... barbed wire."

It is indeed nasty stuff but there's no denying that it's texture and contrast against most everything around it sure does make for fine photography.. as you've just illustrated.

Yep nasty stuff barb wire. I have so many scars from it. With my horse too.
Also a incident when I was catching baby frogs. My sister in law uses it for the neatest wreaths.
So it can be turned into something that is nice. Just like other things that come into life.
It's a wonder that barbed wire still exists, there must be something which will do the job and is safer. Great thoughts Dawn and lovely photos!

We had a close call with some old barbed wire a few weeks ago. We were hiking and I had lifted the kids across a small stream to a leaning tree for a photo. The youngest kiddo lost his balance and slid down a couple of feet onto the base of the tree. It was then I noticed the ancient rusty barb that he had just missed.
We counted our blessings.
I can't tell you how many shirts and jeans my husband has ripped on barbed wire ... I agree. "Dislike".
I have some jeans that can attest to its nastiness. You have cast it in a benevolent light with these lovely shots.

I do not like barbed wire either My Hero's sister has a huge scar on her face from a childhood encounter. A lesson she never forgot. I have seen many a horse encounter too. Things I hope I never see again.

Nice shots, Dawn. Barbed wire seems pretty cruel, in my opinion.
Even the barbed wire - so sharp and aggressive - looks lovely in the right light.
If it's done right it's not so awful, but it typically never is, and when it gets to sagging and rusting it leads to problems. My horse has a big scar on a back leg from just such an incident on the ranch where I boarded him way back in 1995.

Only eight hours away? Do come visit! We could have a great time on our skis. DH and I visited Alberta and B.C. a few summers ago and I was blown away by the beauty. The Canadian Rockies are jaw-dropping gorgeous.
I took a large tract down and placed it on a tree as a wreath. I have been snagged too many times, especially when it is low to the ground. i have a forthcomng tale about this beast.
Barbed wire does certainly have its harsh effect; but you managed to present it with an artistic beauty.

Nice pictures! Rusted barbed wire makes me think of having to get a tetanus shot :-(.
It will always remind me of concentration camps...not happy thoughts;-)
Though when twisted into a wreathe and decorated with pine boughs, it can be quite a lovely holiday thing!
