Inevitable Change

Change.
It's inevitable.

Sometimes it's good and leaves us with positive emotions...
other times we wish things wouldn't have had to change just yet...
{all the while knowing deep down it needs to occur}
And usually does sooner than later.

Yesterday I held a Graduation for my oldest...who begins his first term of Millwright in 2 weeks.

Mixed emotions...and with the way my mind works...{in overdrive for the most part}....I can't help but replay every single moment- good and bad- throughout the years of his life.

Homeschooling hasn't been an easy route.
Truth is...it's difficult being mom and teacher to your kiddos....and neither one of us has much freedom of escape from the other in the tricky times.
It was a lot of work, a lot of tears on both sides...and yet- I wouldn't trade a minute of the time I got to learn with him.
Not one.

I guess that's why I find this so hard.
He's my firstborn. My guinea pig.
He and I have had to carve our way through all this stuff before the others...and we didn't always do it gracefully.
But we did it the best we knew how...and now on the other side of it all...I can truly say the years I've had getting to be his teacher and his learning buddy....has been an incredible blessing.

Tricky letting go of it all.
Especially as I feel I've lost part of my job as a teacher;)

Now I get to figure out what to spend extra time on....
and watch while he continues on with his own story.

A inevitable change.
~~~~~~~
The following is a short video that I played at his Graduation last night.
(Many thanks to my nephew for putting it together for me!)
Now.... go take on the world!
Oh Dawn, I can totally relate to what you're going through. He will be fine and do well all because of you. Congrats to him and I wish him well on this new venture in his life.
Congratulations to the two of you!
Change indeed - but you should be very proud of the job you've done as mother and teacher. The video is a lovely touch too. I'm sure he is every bit as proud of you as you are of him, Dawn.
Okay, now I have sat here and cried my eyes out. This is just wonderful.
It goes by too fast doesn't it?
I really loved seeing how each baby came and your little family expanded. It was precious. Aren't you glad you home schooled? Even on those days that seemed like it was so hard? Now you see it was over in a single breath. Good Job Momma!
Oh Dawn this is a very emotional right of passage for you and your first born. Don't you worry girl you have nurtured the roots and the tree will do just fine. A handsome smart young man going to do great things in this world just like his Mom. Hugs B
Dawn it's hard to let go of our children, I sometimes suffer from the empty nest syndrome and maybe this is a wee part of why my niece lives with me back home. Your son is a handsome young man, he's going to do well in the world... after all he's had the best teacher a child could possibly need in life.
You're an amazing lady Dawn, totally amazing.
Cheers.
Oh, I just want to hug you! I know that you must be filled with all sorts of emotions, but pride is surely one of them. Beautiful video, too. I'm glad that you share your family with all of us.
Odd isn't it...it is our job to raise them to be on their own but oh so hard to let them go.
My sister-in-law home school's her two kids and I know it's not easy, but it's worth the effort. They grow up quickly. Kudos to you, Dawn!
Congratulations to him and to you. The separation process is always a struggle. I can imagine how much harder it is in the home school environment, where the bonds just have to be stronger and more difficult to untie. Good luck, son! Good luck, Mom!
Seeing the kids grow up is bittersweet, but the joy of seeing them succeed to this point and in the next steps of their lives is a great reward.
