Guarding the Sunset

This tall spruce is in my front yard.
He guards every sunset there is.
A ladder is propped against his trunk, and those who dare to,
climb his branches.

I planted small spruce trees around him a few summers ago.
I am hoping that one day those little ones will follow in his footsteps.
For this reason, he must stand on guard and watch his step.
Those who are coming behind, may be watching closely to see how it's done.

I wonder what type of spruce that is, Dawn. Do you know? We have blue spruce in our yard, but they are small. The ponderosa pines are the guardians of our place.

Very stately tree. :)

A regal shot, it has twin trunks it looks like.I bet you can really see quite a long distance when up in it. I can almost feel the sway when at the top.

When Tracie my daughter was a little girl she would climb up the big pine trees in our yard.. She would say "Mommy I can see for miles"...
Now Ben age 4 has the love of climbing.. to the tallest slide at the park... wonder if someday he will climb the same pine trees his mother did when he gets a little older.
Loved your picture and what you had to say about that tree this morning when I read your post.
Good Job~! ta ta for now from Iowa...

Beautiful sunset, I haven't seen one since moving to BC. I planted little spruces when on the prairies and when the snow got deep enough the rabbits stripped them clean.

What a wonderful greeter for the front yard. Your tree does not even seem to mind all that snow--not like I would.

Absolutely beautiful photograph! It's easy to see why Hilary chose this for a POTW mention. Congratulations!

I love that you planted the baby spruce trees. I'm certain that the big one will take good care of them while they grow.
