Needed: Color

Being away made me realize something....
I don't think it's the lack of sunlight that makes one feel down during winter months.
It's more the lack of color.
I can handle cloudy days....but when all one sees is white?
Craziness settles inside of me.

You can't be at the pole and the equator at the same time.
You must choose your own line, as I hope to do, and it will probably be color.

"and if i had to choose where to be right now....
the equator would win over this 'north pole' for sure!"

I hear you. It was around this time every year that I became a lit-tle stir crazy living in Canada. The snow has suddenly lost it's charm. oy

I hear ya, Dawn. The relentless monochrome tone that defines winter in the Great White North can seriously pull down our individual and collective mood. If I can't walk outside my house and take in whatever brilliant beauty has decided to erupt from the earth, your delightful series of photos will hold me just fine for a bit.

Thank you for this. It was a very grey day on this end of the country, but you managed to brighten it.

Hold the colors in your heart until you can see them again with your eyes! Those are really beautiful shots from your getaway. :)

Well, I think you are right but white is beautiful when a red cardinal, blue jay, woodpeckers are sitting on the snow. Just like the flowers we need color to go with the white.
Wintertime can be long but what can we do? Just enjoy the days and know that it is not going to last forever.
Glad you are back.. Have a tiggeriffic day~! ta ta for now from Iowa

WOW, magnificent photos and stunning color! I think that you're onto something here Dawn, it's not a lack of sun it's totally a lack of color for vibrant colorful people like us! :-)

I feel the same even though here our winter's are not white. I hate the cold dreary feeling and would choose colour any day - it makes me feel alive.

Oh yes. Bring back the color! We had one sunny day on Tuesday and it was like heaven. Hold on a bit longer, my friend! Spring is soon here!!

Living in grey Vancouver has cured me of any previous love of shades of grey. This is why you will find yellow and aqua and crimson red on the walls of my home plus the highest wattage lighting that money can buy :) Big hugs from here.

Oh, I now feel simply washed in warmth! And to know that that is what will await us in a few months! Ahhhhh.....

I think that's why I enjoy watching the birds at the feeder so much. At least they have some color!

Hang in there -- Spring is on the way!

I think I mentioned before that I always smile when my US and Canadian friends starts raving about the first snow...because it gets old pretty soon. I hope you have lots of color in your life soon and I hope that you blog buddies add some color to your life too.

I am so with you on this. I need sun & colour - grey, misty, rainy days just depress me and make me want to hide under the duvet.

I hope some colour comes your way soon xx

You are so deep, I wish I thought like you. It is the lack of color. Today, our day will be gray all day. The lack of color gone from outside, is what makes me pace. That is what makes me long for spring, the color that comes seeping slowly back into the world.
Thanks! I needed that.

Beautiful shots. I agree, the lack of color is more than just a little depressing. That's why I'm always glad to see that first dandelion burst out of the ground.

You are exactly right-
it is the lack of color.
I can't wait for spring.
Maybe I need to get outside, no matter how chilly it is, and pretend!

Thank you so much for visiting my blog.

Excellent point about lack of sunlight and most importantly colour! Wow, beautiful shots.

While these flowers are gorgeous, I personally vastly prefer your winter scenery. In particular the fence in your post "Letting Go," the Unknown Trail, and the dramatic barn and fence in "Fence In or Out." That's where I'd love to take my vacation! And you live there? Wow ...

Thanks for visiting my blog. I look forward to getting better acquaintd with you! It's always great meeting new friends. :-)

I think you are so right. It's about the lack of color! Loved the colorful photos!

But that's why you make beautiful, colourful photos when you can - to brighten up the nothing-but-white days ! Of course, our challenge is to be content, no matter the circumstances - easier said than done, which is why it needs to be said regularly.

Love the shots !
