City Trip~ and Life's Riddle

A Trip to the City puts my Country Life {and other things}
in Perspective.

~~~~~~~
And then I get to where I was wishing to be.
And I look around.
And It's a scary place to be.
When you see where you came from~~~
and where you are now {once the wish is granted.}
Then you begin to wish you would have been content in
the first place.
Seeing where you Used to be, and realizing where you now are, makes you think it wasn't so bad at the start.
Feels good to get back down to earth and remember that you actually DO belong where you started.
My goodness! You mean you actually * wanted * to visit a big city? Wow. I once turned down an all-expense-paid vacation to NYC. (Nothing against that big city in particular ... ) Anyways, isn't it nice to know that when the grass is greener where there's actually grass, that you can actually return to the green fields of home? :-)
P.S. Photo number three is scary ... talk about vertigo inducing for those with fear of heights!
I don't mind visiting...as long as I can return;)
And I am absolutely terrified of heights. If I am brave enough to show them- I may just post one of me crawling on the glass floor at the top. I'm still a tad dizzy......
AS always so profound, I could sit and think about this for a few days. It is about the givens and the not givens. Having what we want or not wanting what we have. I think you said it so much nicer. I have to tell you that picture of you looking straight down, just about made me stop right there. I am terrified of heights. I hope you have a great week. I am going to come back and read this post a lot.
Interesting photos. I like the shadow and the one looking past your boot to the ground. Although we belong on the ground, occassionally it is good to fly!
What great photos! How exciting to have a step out window to look down from the top!! Scary but so cool. We have one @ the Sears Tower here in Chicago but I haven't done it yet. I will definitely have to do it!!
I hope you are happy to have your feet planted back at home. Country life is a true pleasure when compared to the stress of living within the city's confines...
Yep - it's good to go to the city occasionally (VERY occasionally !) just to remind yourself how good life in the country really is. Awesome photos Dawn - especially the one that hit me in the vertigo !
Oh fun photos. I did the glass floor thing at Toronto's CN Tower.. it was freaky at first but you get used to it after a while. Interesting perspectives.. in photos and words.
Too high up for my liking! Fantastic photos Dawn and it's funny how the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence until you get to the other side and look back and see how rich the grass was you were once on. I MISS the country and can't wait until I can get out of the city and put my feet back on the green, green grass of home! ;-) Have a fantastic week!
So true, Dawn! Those are thoughts I have struggled with AT LENGTH! I love adventure, and sometimes it's gotten a bit out of hand... to where I have forgotten where I belong. Excellent and down to earth post - thanks for that today!
Whew, you almost made my stomach drop there for a second. Awesome pictures, wonderful thoughts.
Wishing for things you do not have -- has nothing to do with where you are, but who you are. That has been my experience.
Very cool photographs. I could not have stepped out onto that see-through platform. No way!
I'm a small town girl too. I love to visit the city to eat, shop and feel that rush of excitement as the skyscrapers first come into view. I do know that I'm always slightly scared, shocked at the parking prices and exhausted from walking all those city blocks. I could never live in the city...I like neighbors who know my name:)
Thanks for visiting me!
Laid back in the country, but my place is under flood alert again.That means possible in and out by kayak, and lots of overnight guests in town.
Good post, Dawn, very nicely illustrated by your photos. Even though I have spent lots of my life in cities, the vertigo shot caught me up . . . I worked in the 29th - 32nd floors, and they never looked as scary as that shot.
BTW, I don't think you would like riding an old bike. They had no padding, no shock absorbers, and the tires didn't cushion the ride.
I know that I could never return to where I came from (Phoenix). I used to think that city life was for me until I came here for the first time. Every now and then I go back but come running home to Santa Fe. Great post!
Hi Dawn,
Glad to be insired by your perspective again. I love to always be moving forward, I guess that way when you get to where you think you wanted, you are not there for long and ready for the next. Standstills really drive me crazy sometimes, but I know that have their place too.
I love the unusual way you express your thoughts on life and things. I haven't been to Los Angeles, where I lived for over 30 years, in almost two years now. And it is only 100 miles away. My dream is here and I am certain of it.--Inger
Amen Dawn, so well said my friend, it seems that you always want to get away but once you do your heart strings always pull you toward home.
Also completely agree with "Every time I look around, I want to be there instad of where I am." I've been thinking about this a lot. I'm not always happy exactly where I am but it is my choice where I go. If I want change I need to make it. Sometimes though, you're exactly right and I don't appreciate what I have. Hopefully those reasons to smile will keep popping up and I'll remember to appreciate where I am currently.
