Barrel of Fun

I was sitting on my porch swing the other morning....minding my own business and trying to enjoy a coffee while madly swatting killer mosquitoes....
when my gaze kept being drawn to this barrel.

I had good intentions of cutting it in half and
making flower boxes out of it to sit at the end of my driveway.
(Thank you dear sister-in-law who gave it to me FIVE years ago to do just that.)

Of course...it still sits where I plunked it,
~or rather, rolled it~
when we were building our home.

(Another..."I will get around to it one day" project.)

Now the barrel sits like a permanent fixture.
And I can't seem to find it in me to move it.

Now since that Barrel-Staring morning, I cannot seem to get the
(click above link to listen. Or not.)
out of my head!
{A catchy little tune driving me a tad batty.}
~~~~~~~~~~~
I think feel a backyard Polka-party coming on...
(feel free to bring your accordion;)
Love that song! I play it for ballet sometimes, believe it or not. :) Well, it's pretty just sitting there.
I think it adds that certain something to the area ;)
A polka party sounds like fun. Maybe you can get your guests to help you make the barrel into planters!
i love the sight of these barrels, sideways with flowers spilling out!!
you have to do it, get the hubs to help....i will be waiting for pictures!!!! xo
The Mrs. would want a barrel with flowers here, but is afraid our older son will use it for some kind of target practice.
I always thought it was unfair for those who reside in cold weather climates to have so many fly and mosquito issues--you all should get a pass on that.
No, I'm NOT going to listen to it otherwise it'll be stuck in MY head too !
As for the barrel, it's obvious that you didn't get a round tuit, so I'll give you one - grab a pencil and piece of paper, draw a circle, write 'tuit' inside the circle, cut out the circle and give it to yourself. There - now you can move the barrel ;-)
Actually it looks pretty good just sitting where it is.
I like it there, quietly sitting under the trees. I'm not sure how long it'll last though, before quietly rotting away... I definitely won't be clicking on the link to the song. I suspect it would take half an hour to load, and then the rest of the day to get out of my head...
The barrel will make gorgeous flower pots...but then again it looks nice right where it is too.
Ok... I'm laughing so hard.
1. I also have old stuff sitting around waiting to be made into lovely decorations.
2. That music is so Swiss-like you need not make the trip to Oz! You can listen to it on YouTube!
3. Batty, indeed! Now you've got it stuck in my head!
Oh gosh. I totally remember my parents dancing to that song in our very tiny living room when I was just a wee child. That memory is clear as a bell in my head.
Great looking barrel!
Chores not done? What would we do next if we actually knocked off all the items on our "to do" lists? It is a scary thought.
LOL...Now I'm going to go around singing that song all day :)
LOL on the polka! Too funny!
It's got plenty of character. Bit early to listen to a polka.
Bring that barrel inside and use it for art display...too pretty to rot outside!
Great. Now I'll be humming that all day!
Hmmm....why is it I like old barrels? I dunno if I would have it in me to cut the proud old barrel in half. I kinda' like him the way he is---just sitting there with lots of wise character. I bet he could tell you some stories.......
I think it looks nice even without flowers. Just a little piece of rustic hanging out with the trees.
The barrel would make two great planters...but I bet it would be a job to cut it in half. It looks neat where it is. :))
I think that spot, where the barrel rests, is just perfect. Great picture!
I am not even going to think of it or since I have had songs like John Denver's Leavin on Jet plane stuck in there for days it is better than that one.
It is a nice barrel though.
LOL that's quite the video! And you'd best do something with the barrel before I show up or I'll cut it in half and bring it home with me for planters! hehehe I love your last photo, the barrel does look good there, but not nearly as good as it would adorning my front lawn! ;-) Enjoy your day!
Yeah, it's begging to be repurposed.
I have so many "projects" sitting around here like that!
i think it looks great right there! i might just straighten it out so i can set my beer on it!
actually, i don't drink beer. seems the appropriate beverage though...
Haha, that song is pretty amazing! I do love it. Also, what great photo's! Got to just love when you aim to do something, then end up never doing it anyway! Must just be the "I'll do it soon" gene that pretty much every human has, haha.
Now that I have bounced to the polka tune.. I think the barrel should remain where it is.
Thanks for the song, Dawn.
Hugs,
Pam
Now that I know you enjoy the heady combination of a randomly mutating Bavarian and psychedelic 70's backdrops, your posts suddenly make a little more sense. Context, they call it:-) Nice barrel, you could fill it with beer for that party you're throwing!
I love the idea of the flower barrels! Love all of the green grass.
Nancy said...
Hey, there's worse songs to have stuck in the old noggin'. It's a happy tune -- :)
I think having a big ol' barrel like that is worth keeping. You can always buy the half-versions someday down the road.
Lovely captures, Dawn. Hope you are having a great day!
Everyone has some of those projects in their background. It's just as you get older there are so many. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
Darn, it difficult to polka and type at the same time. OK, fine.. I'm only tapping my toes. Love the barrel. I think it looks great right where it is.
