I need a Beach Day

I need a beach day.
And not because I have a ton of snow and am wearing a winter down-filled coat.
No.
I've been thinking.
And thinking and thinking.
About everything in particular and nothing at all.
My head sometimes feels like a busy freeway!

I think I need a break.
~~~~
Anyone want to go here with me?
~~~~
So I was told by  a well-meaning friend yesterday, that I come across as a person who will
"never do something if you don't want to."
At first I thought this was true.
But as I thought of it....I wanted to yell out-  it wasn't!
I mean...how many diapers does one really WANT to change?
(I think in the course of my lifetime with 4 kiddos I changed 1000's. Of course I did.)

What about when I have to make dinner and I'm not hungry?
Or doing everyone else's laundry?

No..I do things I don't want to.
For sure I do.

But the other times...when I DON'T do things I don't want to?
Isn't life to short to play that game?

If it comes down to it....I Do the Things I HAVE to.
I Don't Do the things I don't Have To if I don't WANT to.

There.
That's that.

One less thing to think about.

I knew I needed a Beach Day.
(and now you probably do too;)

Your thought process is all too familiar to me, Dawn! Oh! My mind needs a beach day every day! My husband recently said to me, "I feel sorry for you living in your head... it must be so tiring!" ;)

He's rather right!

come over for some iced tea at mine and I'll take you to the beach!!

A beach day would be totally awesome right about now, nothing but the waves whooshing out to sea, the birds flying high above, the hot sand between my toes... oh ya, much better now thank you! :-) My suggestion for you Dawn, not that you asked, just get outta your head and into your heart, as you generally do, and life can be that beach everyday! Mind you I have days from hell as well, that's the joy of humanness!

Allison, I love your comment! lol

Cat....Glad it made you laugh. I was hoping no one took me for too crazy;) (And I hope your birthday day was wonderful!)

Allison....HAHA! I have been told that exact same thing- all the time! Isn't it exhausting?

Widge...I will be right over...just looking for some my beach gear.....:)

Oh I feel guilty saying the beautiful Gulf shore beaches is a mere few miles from my front door. See you want beach and I want snow..

I daydream of days when I snow skied (and now want to learn how to snowboard) and you daydream of sand and blue waters..Wanna trade houses?

Have a "beachy-in-your-head" day!!!

You can always come to sunny South Africa...we have beautiful beaches here and I can host you...now wouldn't it be so fun?

I'm trying to think of things that I don't have to do, but I still do them anyway. It's too early for that kind of deep thinking, though.

I've never been to the ocean, but I'm sure you could twist my arm... :) Hope you are having a great day, Dawn. <3

I'll always take a beach day!!! Before my husband and I used to live on the Carribbean, and I loved it! Every day was a beach day! i never wanted to move! But, alas, we all must do things that we really don't want to do, but have to, like moving.

A beach day would be great.

Good post. Absolutely, I could use a beach day or two. My father lives across the street from the ocean which makes visiting great. I think every family should have a relative stratgically placed near a beach.

I am looking for someone to take or invite me somewhere nice.I have zip to do for the rest of the year. I was out on the beach last Sunday, but it was 41F.I swam last 10-5 and it was cold.I'm thinking Myrtle Beach,SC sounds fun, it is a favorite runaway for me. I luck out with a huge botanical center 90 miles away where I can sit and soak up some rays, but not listen to the waves, just a few waterfalls.

I'm with you. I blogged last summer about needing a beach day. And I still haven't gotten one!

You made me laugh! Whew you wear me out!!! :) Love Slamdunk's comment about "strategically placed" relatives. :)

One of these lifetimes we'll be able to teleport anywhere we want in a second's time - no passport necessary! Wouldn't everyone be at the beach then?! :)

I need a beach day REALLY BAD. I agree about doing things you don't want to - that's a big part of parenthood - diapers, wet clean-ups, discipline, algebra - I don't know when it will stop.

I say go for it! Certainly with 4 kids, you deserve about 50 beach days at least. :) Beautiful photos, you made me want a beach day now too. Too bad the only trip I'm taking any time soon is to Nebraska. No beach in sight. :)

I would take you to the beach, really I would, I think any day is a beach day. :) I think life if made up every day of doing things we don't want to do, but we do them anyway. That wasn't a very kind statement. You have 4 kids and I am sure your days are made up more of doing what you don't want to do instead of doing what you would like to do. It is just life. I have been married 31 years and 6 kids later, I can finally finish a sewing project. All of the years when I had little ones I thought I was just a lazy slacker because I never could finish a project. When you have a young family you get too tired to do things for yourself.

What helped me the most when I had kids around my feet, " If you have kids at home, don't worry about ministry, because your family is your ministry. " Elisabeth Elliot said that and it gave me such freedom. You are doing all you can do at this stage in your life. :)

My girls with small children spend their days doing all day long things they don't want to do.
I wish I could send you a hug.

so here is one. O

Oh I'll join you on that beach day. And since it's just a fantasy beach day, I'm skinny and can fit into a bikini! OK.. maybe not.. life's a beach.

Come visit me and we can go to the beach together!! :) And this is definitely how my mind works too. I love reading your thoughts as you think them... so fun! :)

Jimmy said...

Yes we do a lot of things not because we want to but because they need to be done, and who better to do them than us :)

A beach day sure makes it all more worth it.

Never hurts to have a beach day in your head while doing the 'ordinary things of life' ! That's what makes beach days so much fun when they actually come around.
