capturing the Croaking~Country Choir

One of the things that stands out to me living this country life,  are the sounds.
Sounds you don't often hear in the city.
(Or just don't notice.)

Presently- along with all different types of birds tweeting and chirping -  the frog choruses are in full swing.
Day and night, I can hear them tirelessly croaking down the hill by the dugouts.

And thanks to all our snow which has almost completely melted, we now have numerous places for frogs to position themselves.
~~~~
Yesterday, I came around the corner of the house  to see this:
Of course I had to follow.
It looked to good of an adventure not to.....
The normally dry pasture land,  had turned in to a ~Land of Lakes~
~Making for some interesting net-captures~
(Please note that all captured choir members were immediately released back to their croaking positions,
and are currently continuing on with their choir careers.
The proof is in the music outside my window....)
I love frogs! I caught a huge toad in the garden last week. Pierce and I had fun with him, but then we set him free (and I forgot to take pics!)
One of my favorite spring things are the frogs :)
We have a tradition of going for a drive to the swampy areas on the first really warm evening..and getting ice cream (maybe that's my favorite).
These photos are just breathtaking! Gorgeous place.
One of these days I almost grabbed a frog in my backyard thinking it was a leaf - where were my glasses?!?!?!
Dawn, cool photos...you know my son has been sick and he woke up yesterday morning saying he couldn't sleep because the birds were too loud. I had to laugh!
you amaze me each post, with beautiful landscapes and nature shots, how beautiful .... ra a gift. Hugs from South America.
Oh Dawn it is my favourite time of year for sure. They are the best choir. Nice lake you have. I hear them but have yet to see one yet. I went looking on Thursday with no luck but I could still here them. Good hiding places I guess. B
That is an amazing photo with the sky in the water's reflection. What a beautiful, harmonic country life you live!
I love your pond and the frogs.
I miss the sound of frogs so much. We have a sump and earlier in the spring I could hear the frogs. Some people must complain because next thing I saw was the heavy equipment dredging the sump. Now no more frogs.
I miss the sound of frogs and silence.
Croaking is good for frogs, each specie has it's purpose (Croaking ain't good for humans--at least not for me!)
Here, there are a lot of ponds in fields and yesterday, I saw several ducks in these faux-ponds, as if they were excited to be the only duck on the pond.
I can hear them...
Love that shot of the "Land of Lakes"
I thought for sure this would end up with a good word about how frog legs are so tasty! ;-)
Never had 'em myself. But you can get 'em in Florida.
Nice pasteurized lake! I like the sky reflections, too.
I did check on the bike. They have one just for you...it's a Trek all decked out and ready to go and only $3,457.90! As soon as your check arrives they will ship it to you!
You are so lucky!
Croak! :-)
Beautiful photos. I'm feeling a little left out though, not living near any type of pond my nights are silent.
Just as I was readying for my trip to China, my own frog chorus was building in Maine. Although I will miss everyone when I leave on Monday, the thought of returning to the peeps and the croaks and all the familiar birdsound will make it a bit ok.
That's a lot of water in the pasture! Looks like fun, netting a few frogs.
We get a good frog chorus from our creek. I like to listen to them.
I heard the here last night too and they were loud! I may have breathed a sigh of relief. : )
Made me grin from ear to ear! Nothing better than frogging for some fun! Glad you are FINALLY getting springtime!!! Woo Hoo!
How fun. My neighbor has a big pond and I love to watch the catfish splash and the listen to the frogs sing.
Fabulous shots - so blue! That is a lot of flood water... Lovely to hear about your birdsong and frog choir. Means spring has definitely arrived!
Rick said...
Ah, to be a kid again, hunting frogs ! Love those shots.
I know what you mean about the choir - we have 2 small ponds beside our house and it's a regular cacophony of male suitors calling for a willing partner out there !
haha! I love this!! Awesome frog pictures Dawn!
OH my goodness, I miss your blog. I dunno what happened - I've been so caught up with trying to live life and it's been crazy, and I've totally neglected all aspects of blogging lately. I'm sorry I haven't commented in awhile! I'm catching up on yours over the next couple days! Thanks for your thoughtful comments - you are so sweet.
And I've totally been thinking about you and wondering if the snow has melted, so I love that this blog was at the top of the list and there's no snow! Yay! You can start seeing color again!! :)
Have a great day!
Really great pictures of their Tom Sawyer adventure, Dawn! (love the disclaimer, too. :)
It is so wonderful to see kids out frolicking in the great outdoors! There is so much to discover... and the sounds of nature are truly restful. As I type, there are myriads of birds singing outside my window. Ah... I MUST go outside! :)
The frogs aren't out here yet. Dang. I miss them.
Something I miss after moving to town is the frogs. I often stop and listen to them when traveling.
LBB said...
What a find! That would make for hours of fun!! Glad to here all were returned saftly :)
Randy said...
I'll bet the sound is just so peaceful at night. Enjoy your Sunday! It's cold cold cold today and the sky is so gray. I hope it doesn't snow.
Beautiful pictures. Seems like they had fun. And like the little guy floating on the water too.
Love listening to the frogs at night. I can still remember the hot summer nights laying in bed listening to the forgs....in the days before air conditioning;).
I must be going mad. Was sure I'd posted to this yesterday. That big pic in the middle... achingly beautiful! Just stay wrapped up, it still looks cold there!
Sounds fantastic. Great photos (I love to hear nature singing) and glad that your snow is almost all melted up there.
Excellent frog shots, I LOVE them! Looks like your children don't get bored, always something to do out on the farm eh? I should export my niece to the farm, she couldn't get into any more trouble that way... well not as much anyways.
Have a great Monday, hopefully my internet issues are cleared up now. I was so frustrated last night I finally just gave up and went to bed! It was bed time anyways. :-)
There is a creek across from our house and it is filled with tiny little peep frogs. They get so loud in the evenings that it kind of hurts the ears. But I do love hearing them. I am so glad that you can finally see the ground!!!!
