This Moment

You may not like the Moment you're in.....
....but don't worry.
This Moment will pass to the next.
~~~~
The door slammed shut and all 4 of my kids were gone.
They all had wanted to go to town for one reason or other....
a friend's,
skating at the town lake,
a movie,
the library,
hot chocolate at Tim Hortons.
So my oldest took them all in, and now-
the house was silent.
I actually heard the clock ticking in the hallway.
The house was so empty.
I stood there holding my breath- almost expecting one of them to storm back in for something they had forgotten.
But no- the loaded vehicle went past the house with all of them waving emphatically through the windows.
It was me.
Alone in a big, empty, quiet house- and for a second or more I almost wished I could call them back and ask them to take me with them.
I missed them already.
Then I remembered yesterday.
The day where I wished all of them to be outside playing so I could have even a moment of peace.
Here they were gone, and I wanted them back.
Yesterday they were here and I wished them all out.
What was wrong with me?
{Live in the moment you're in...and enjoy it there.
The next moment is coming up....you can enjoy that moment too.}
I quickly realized I was alone and relished the thought.
I grabbed my outdoor gear, donned my ski boots, and slid away through the trees for a 10km ski around the fields.
I was alone and I was going to relish the thought and enjoy every second.
They were going to be home in a few hours-and I would have to make their supper, wash their clothes, and listen to the banter.
 Another moment would be here again soon enough.
(all the pictures above were of the same sunset within
MOMENTS of each other.)
Oh Dawn,those sunset pictures are amazing! I know how you feel, getting some time all to yourself unexpectedly,first you don't realize quite what had hit you,and then it is into overdrive quickly to make the most of it! Have a lovely day!
Ah, so true Dawn. One lesson I've learned (ok, maybe still learning) is to never wish moments away. Gorgeous sunset shots, and also true - they change so rapidly you just have to keep shooting and enjoying the moments !
This could be my life on any given day... and I have had the same thoughts. You have articulated them so well!! Isn't that the truth! Wow.... thank you for this. Truly.
Oh Dawn,
Those photos are breath-taking! ...just absolutely gorgeous! And you are so right...we need to live in the moment and enjoy what we have when we have it!
I'm glad you enjoyed your moment!
You are not alone here in this thinking...I know only too well these exact same thoughts.
I listened to several of Oprah's podcasts with Eckhart Tolley last spring. They really focus on living in the moment, and I love that.
Who can not relate to your story...the pictures are breathtaking....
It's something I tried to capture while I was raising my boys -- not to forget about me. It's a difficult thing to do when life gets hectic.
Love your photos. They tell your story very well.
A lovely moment toexperience with you. Even with the snow I will miss it when it is gone.It started up a little yesterday while traveling and I didn't even worry, I knew it would melt too soon.When my kids visit, then it gets lonely when they leave.
I completely can identify with that feeling (though I don't have kids). But ya know what really stuck out? You have a kid that goes to the library!? Way to go Dawn! Lol. :)
Deep thoughts and I have them quite often now. The ticking of the clock that I am not even aware of most of the time sounds too loud when the house is quiet. I don't know how I will adjust when it is that way all of the time. I then regret all of the times I wished it was quiet. Thanks for reminding me once again. I love your photos.
Moments, what life is made of. I don't want to be singing that song "If I Could Turn Back Time" (Cher). I've sang along with that song for far to long in my life and I've learned to live in the moment, take each as it comes and make the most of what we have today.
I love your photos, that's amazing that they were all within the moments of one another. The skies change so quickly, I just wish ours would change sometime SOON!
I hope you enjoyed your venture out into the great outdoors. Have a fantastic Sunday Dawn! Thanks for the reminder.
Funny how when the kids are out of the house you don't know what to do with yourself!
Enjoy every waking moment - even if at times they are not that great. That silence though at times can be deafening.
