The First Half

FOUR more days.
4 days until I run my very 1st Half Marathon.
And I'm a bundle of nerves.

I'm not worried about the race against others,
for I only race against myself.

And that's where the problem lies.

I have a goal time set in my mind that I want to run that 21km in.
And I don't want to fail.
I want to make that goal.
And if I don't...
Regardless of crossing the finish line or not...I'll feel unfinished.

Ridiculous?
Probably just one more thing I need to truly work on.
Another mind battle.....
~~~
In honor of this upcoming first Half Marathon Milestone,
(and because I needed a new pair),
I bought myself these:
(Before you look, you may want to don a pair of shades....really.)
Not sure they'll make me run faster or not.
But I'm thinking that every time I catch a glimpse of them, they'll inspire me to pick up the pace:)
{On this "Goal" note;
I have signed up for a 170km / 2 day Bike Tour in June in order to help raise awareness and funds for the Canadian MS Society. Click on the link  (top right corner) and it will take you to my Homepage~~where you can sign on to help me in my goal for MS research.
Or if you feel so inclined, sign up to bike with me!}
My daughter chose some with a pinker hue. Hope you can get these broke in before the run.The goal is to complete the run, the time is a time to beat someday.
Dawn,
GOOD LUCK on your 1/2- but by all means, have FUN!!! Geesh, you put a lot of pressure on yourself time wise, but I do understand wanting to reach your own personal best. I did a 1/2 years ago, but my only goal was to see if I could actually complete the thing. I did, but I think there was a "race walker" that was faster than me! (No joke!)
ps- i really dig those shoes!!!
:)
Good luck Dawn with the half marathon. I think that it's good to have a goal as long as it's reasonable. With my Mountains of Misery ride that's coming up in 10 days the only goal that I have set is to FINISH!!! If I were closer I would definitely sign up to ride with you on the MS ride.
Good luck, Dawn. Those shoes look great. They will make all the difference in you reaching your goal! Now you gotta show us the rest of the outfit.
Dawn Your shoes are awesome nothing says keep going then a beautiful bright orange shoe. I admire you I admire all runners it is a competition against yourself more than anything, it takes a lot of stamina and confidence to beat yourself and I know you will do it. You will do great I know it. B
Awesome shoes! I know you will do a great job! Have faith!
You're going to do fine. Relax.
Lois Anne bought a pair of racing shoes very similar to these only hers were red! She didn't start running until she was 58. I think I told you she's won a number of races, has done several 1/2 marathons and 2 full marathons (NY and Disney)...she still holds the 5K record for her age group in the state of Florida.
She doesn't race anymore, but runs several times a week. It makes her high. I ride along with my bike and I can tell when she hits the place where she's gliding along ... it's pretty cool.
So, to repeat, you'll do fine.
Oops! I forgot. Yes, those flowers are real. You'll find them all over our Stone Creek community, and in many other places in central Florida, including The Villages. I'll be posting more shots of similar flowers soon on our Stone Creek blog.
Gosh, I know just how you feel...
I really wanted to mow the whole lawn today, but ran out of gas and now I'm destroyed. ;)
Haha! Oh, go on with your persnickety self. You'll do great no matter what.
Your determination comes through pretty well Dawn, I don't doubt your ability for a second. : )
And gosh, a half marathon...I've never surpassed 7K. Knock'em dead!
And the male twin would LOVE those shoes...he has a thing for orange!
