the Blueberry Scone Battle

(steel-cut oat blueberry scones)

My mom has a White Chocolate Blueberry Scone recipe.
She has had it for years, and over the course of those years several people have tried to get that recipe.
None have succeeded.
I have even shared my recipe for Refreshing Lime Sherbet with her and to no avail!
I know I could probably find something similar online somewhere, but she makes these scones a certain way...and I want to know how.
They are absolutely divine!
The above picture is not that recipe. But it's the next best thing.

I would rather go to my mom's to eat over a fancy restaurant any day. When you go there for food, you not only come away full, but you wonder why all food can't taste as good.
You always get something more than just the basic.
For example: after a swim one morning I stopped in there for breakfast. (Don't worry, I don't make it a habit to just drop in and expect food from my parents:)
Instead of just breakfast of porridge and coffee...I was treated to Banana Split Porridge, a Cappuccino with Soy, and for dessert, Fig Truffles.

Then there was the MYSTERY MEAL she and my dad held for all of us.
We were given this menu as we sat down:
What followed was a hilarious meal of watching everyone get their courses mixed up with the wrong utensils...sometimes only getting their beverage with a spoon and fork....having to eat their next course by hand.
It wasn't just regular food, it was...well....you would have to try it.
It was delicious. Everything was.
(my 2nd course...i was lucky enough to get a spoon!)

Maybe I am jealous.
Or maybe I am just super happy my mom is the best cook I know and she
has me over for meals every so often.
Whatever it is.....I guess I should be OK with the fact she won't share a recipe.
For now, I will be content with the following recipe
(in place of the White Chocolate Blueberry Scones).
:)

Steel Cut Oat Blueberry Scones

1 1/2 cups flour (I use whole wheat)
1 1/4 cups steel cut oats
1/4 sugar (I use brown sugar or honey)
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp baking powder
2/3 cup melted butter (I used applesauce)
1/2 cup milk (I use soy)
1 egg
1/2 cup blueberries (I double this:)

Mix dry ingredients and wet ingredients separately. Blend together and add blueberries. Bake at 450 for 12 minutes.
~~

These aren't quite as good as mom's, but they'll do. For now.
And if I ever manage to get her recipe, I don't know if I would share it.
But I would have you over for scones!
:)

Aunty Bev, if you are reading this, I really think you should share your secret recipe with Dawn!! (and of course, with me too!!) ;o)
You are both amazing cooks and bakers....
however there was this cinnamon bun thingy in a bundt pan that your mom made that was truly other worldly kind of good and AHEM...she wouldn't tell me the recipe for that either.
Your mom is hilarious, cute and so full of life that I always think of her being closer to my age than she really is. I love her cheeky humour. :)

That Bev is an excellent cook and baker and she has such fun ideas for meals. The Mystery Meal looks great!!!
She wouldn't share her scone recipe with me either:(((
She made us a wonderful German meal when they visited us and it was so wonderful I asked her to make it the next year when they came out, sure hoping they come to visit this year too!!!
